Position Overview: Successfully lead, develop and direct the Production team to maintain productive application of resources including personnel, equipment, and facilities for achieving production goals, quality and cost objectives. Prioritize production schedules based on labor availability, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Plans and administers procedures. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of production. Establishes and promotes production activities in compliance with the company’s Quality System requirements.
What you will do:
- Hands-on leadership of daily production operations including workflow scheduling, management of staff, monitoring productivity and quality, production process troubleshooting, and all other activities required to ensure on-time delivery and 100% customer satisfaction.
- Maintain favorable working relationships with employees to promote a positive working environment that maximizes safety, employee engagement, productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure department procedures and processes are consistently focused on the highest standards of quality, safety policies, and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate production schedules and estimate labor hour requirements to provide work direction and effectively balance labor resources and provide feedback on planning.
- Develop and implement staffing plans, through capacity and labor planning activities, including writing justifications for additional personnel and obtaining approval
- Establish or adjust work procedures and personnel to utilize all manufacturing resources in an effective manner to meet schedule and deliver quality products.
- Lead manufacturing personnel to achieve the optimum levels of performance by open communication, visibility, involvement, empowerment and accountability.
- Facilitates employee training and required documentation to ensure compliance to current procedures and quality standards.
- Ensure employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their jobs.
- Develop, coach, and provide direction to Production Team Leads
- Provide appropriate coaching, direction and resolution for employees to solve work problems.
- Continually analyze, identify and set expectations to motivate workers to achieve work goals through providing feedback and recognition.
- Continually analyze, identify, and provide input measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Drive the use of manufacturing practices such as lean manufacturing, visual management, waste elimination, and 5S tools
- Communicate and ensure production personnel understand and follow all company policies and required safety policies and practices.
- Perform administrative action for assigned personnel, including performance appraisals, timesheets, and disciplinary action.
- Track outputs of processes to maintain or improve product flow efficiencies and minimize work in process levels.
- Develops and maintains manufacturing metrics to communicate and drive performance, and provides regular progress reports. As needed, present the department’s performance to the organization and leadership.
- Assist with manufacturing requirements and planning for new products.
- Collaborate cross functionally at all levels of the organization with Quality Assurance, Customer Service, Materials, Sourcing and Manufacturing Engineering to coordinate activities and resolve productions issues on a timely basis to provide the best level of service.
Required Education & Experience:
Associate degree and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees and business associates.
- Good interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to clearly provide work direction and present recommendations and ideas and to build consensus.
- Ability to build, coach and motivate high performance personnel, while holding employees accountable for results.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines.
- Established knowledge of quality management systems and corrective action programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Medical device manufacturing experience
- APICS/CPIM Certification
- Familiarity with MRP software (Microsoft AX or others).
- Lean manufacturing and continual process improvement experience
- Six Sigma Certification
- Intermediate level proficiency in Excel
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and the ability to talk and hear.
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arm’s length, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally life and/or move up to 50 pounds.
